PE and Sport Premium Fund

We received £8,111 in our April budget to spend on sport.

We enhance our sporting facilities by hiring the field adjacent to our sports hall. We employ a Table Tennis Coach; Mr N Besford who teaches in school and runs an out of school club.   We employ coaches from SCSS who teach PE lessons and after school clubs. We buy into Tees Valley Sporting Partnership and compete against other schools in a wide range of sports.  We take upper Key Stage 2 swimming and compete in the Stockton Schools Swimming Gala. We have after school football and cricket. A local cricket coach works in school and provides a link with Thornaby Cricket Club to engage many of our pupils in out of school provision. A football coach comes in to coach an after school club.  We take children ice-skating and employ a coach to teach them the basic skills. The sports hall is let by a Gymnastics Club and a Martial Arts Club which encourages pupil participation.
We have had lots of success last year; in swimming, athletics and Table Tennis with children competing successfully at regional level.
Thornaby has an excellent range of opportunities for children to engage in out of school sport. We signpost children to these local clubs and many of them attend local martial arts, gymnastics, dance and swimming.

The Big Lottery Fund

We were successful in bidding for a grant to improve our children’s health and fitness by providing additional sports coaches to encourage active participation across school.  The programme is delivered by SCCS who send coaches in to work with children at lunchtime and after school.  Participation is excellent and children certainly get active.
