Sports Grant
We received £8,146 in our April budget to spend on Sport. We enhance our sporting facilities by
managing the field adjacent to our sports hall. We employ specialist staff to increase participation and
expertise. A Table Tennis Coach; Mr N Besford teaches in school and runs an out of school club.
We employ coaches from SCSS who teach PE lessons and after school clubs. We buy into Tees Valley
Sporting Partnership and compete against other schools in a wide range of sports. We take upper Key
Stage 2 swimming and compete in the Stockton Schools Swimming Gala. We buy additional Top-Up
swimming for those who have not met the required standard. We have after school football and cricket.
A local cricket coach works in school and provides a link with Thornaby Cricket Club to engage many of
our pupils in out of school provision. A football coach comes in to coach in an after school club. We have
taken children ice-skating and employed a coach to teach them the basic skills. The sports hall is let by
a Gymnastics Club and a Martial Arts Club which encourages pupil participation.
We have had lots of success last year; in swimming, athletics and Table Tennis where children competed
successfully at a regional level.
Thornaby has an excellent range of opportunities for children to engage in out of school sport. We
signpost children to these local clubs and many of them attend local martial arts, gymnastics, dance and
swimming.
The Daily Run
Every child from Y2 upwards goes out for ten minutes a day to complete a daily run. Children are
enthusiastic and we hope fitness is improving.
Child Protection ~ Designated Child Protection Officer ~ Mrs J Conway
The school has a duty to ensure the welfare and safety of all its pupils. In cases where school staff
have cause to be concerned that a pupil may be subject to ill-treatment, neglect or other forms of
abuse, our nominated teacher, Mrs J Conway, will follow the LA Child Protection Procedures and inform
The Children’s Hub of these concerns. If you have any concerns about a child being at risk of harm
please contact Mrs J Conway alternatively contact The Children’s Hub on 01429 284284
KIDSAFE
SRE is a statutory responsibility for schools to teach from September 2019. We follow a programme
called Kidsafe which teaches children how to keep themselves safe in a wide variety of situations. It is
an age appropriate programme which aims to teach children how to keep themselves safe from harm.
Details of the sessions are sent home to parents before the lessons are taught so that parents can
discuss what the children have learnt with them.
Parent Support Advisors
Mrs L Anderson and Mr M Ciccone are the Parent Support Advisors and have an office next to the main
reception. They have a drop in session which is advertised on the school notice boards and they are
available to work with parents on a wide range of issues. They are trained in parenting programmes and
have worked very successfully with many parents. They run trips for parents and their children which
gives parents a chance to meet them informally and create a support group with other parents.
